Day Five: Theatre upon Theatre

It was an exciting start to the day at the Frantic Assembly workshop at Danceworks Studios in Mayfair. Mark guided the students through a fantastic and challenging Physical Theatre workshop, covering basic lifting techniques and devising of ensemble movement.

The first show of the day was the ‘Book of Mormon’ at the Prince of Wales Theatre in Leicester Square. Created by the makers of South Park, the musical production was witty and made a statement. The students thoroughly enjoyed this performance.

In the evening we all went to dinner at Planet Hollywood and enjoyed relaxing together before setting off to see the world famous actor ‘An Evening with Ian McKellen’. He opened with Gandalf’s death from Lord of the Rings. In the first half of his performance, he told theatre anecdotes and in the second half performed all the famous speeches from Shakespeare - even a comic version of Juliet and finishing with the sad speech from The Tempest by Prospero about actors vanishing into thin air. It was a prophetic intimate moment shared by the audience with renowned ageing actor.
